The Samsung Odyssey+ comes with two controllers and is the best budget VR headsets you could buy right now.

The specs are impressive and with a resolution of 2880 x 1600 pixels the 3k anti-sde AMOLDED display is sharp and immersive.

The Samsung Odyssey+ is a great first headset for someone who doesn’t want to spend a tonne of money on VR right away. Its light, comfortable and has everything you need with 6 degrees of tracking freedom and a nice display.

Oculus Quest VR Gaming System 64G – Android

Price: $605.49

Perfect for all sized rooms

Six degrees of freedom

Performance rivals the Rift

Wireless

The Oculus Quest is arguably the best selling VR headset at the moment. The Oculus Quest is comparable to Drift S in a lot of ways except one major thing, it supports standalone play.

This headset is outfitted with a Snapdragon processor comparable to those high-end smartphones, which allows the headset to play great, fully-fledged VR games without the need for a computer. Since a computer is not needed at all, the calculations take place in the headset.

There is also no cable needed for playing, which grants more freedom different than any other VR set out there at the moment, but it gets even better.

The Oculus Quests recently go update which lets players connect their quest to their PC via a special link cable and use it as a PC VR headset so you can play pretty much any PC VR game on this thing as well.

It lets you can play stand-alone and PC VR games on this headset, which in my opinion makes one of the coolest VR headsets out there at the moment.

All this technology crammed into a headset has one downside however, it is rather heavy. Depending on your head shape, the Quest can get very uncomfortable while playing for extended amounts of time, but there are various workarounds and different types of DIY fixes or viable solutions to solve this problem.

The Oculus Quest uses the same tracking system as the Ocular Rift S and generally gives very good performance. TheOcular Quest is one of the most rapidly developing and fun headsets on the market right now and is a great first headset or a nice addition to a VR collection.

Oculus Rift S PC-Powered VR Gaming Headset

Price: $399

Comfortable and smart design

Sharp, beautiful display

A wide selection of games and apps

Affordable

The Oculus Rift S is the sequel to the original Oculus Rift CV1 and features most of the same functionality with only minor upgrades to display resolution and quality. It is great for a first time VR buyer. It does have a lot less screen door effect than the original Rift, however, meaning that your games will look a lot sharper.

The Oculus Rift S has an LCD screen with a resolution of 1280 x by 1440 pixels per eye, which for most people is plenty. Unless you are hardcore VR enthusiasts and really want something sharper, this is a perfectly good resolution.

The Rift S displays at 80hz rather in the common 90hz however, which for some people might be a downside. Compared to the Oculus Rift CV1, the Rift S has inside out tracking so it doesn’t need any external sensors which save a lot of work and space to set up.

Tracking is mostly solid unless you’re playing in direct sunlight or moving your arms all sorts of impossible positions.

We also found the Rift S to be super comfortable. It’s light with the halo strap resting the weight on top of your head instead of on your face, making it really easy to wear for a long time.

It is very versatile when it comes to playing games as well. Playing almost anything available from Oculus Library to Steam VR the Rift S pretty much plays anything.

The Rift S is a great option for people looking for a small upgrade from their first-generation VR headsets, but also a great first VR headset for new players who have a little bit more to spend.

Pimax 5K XR OLED VR Headset

Price: $699.00

Excellent image quality

Realistic presence

Incredibly comfortable headset

Finger-tracking controllers add a new level of immersion

The Pimax 5K XR has a resolution of an incredible 2560×1440 pixels per eye. The display is the next level and gives you zero screen door effect and unrivaled sharpness while playing games. It would be great for a first time VR buyer.

It also has a super high field of vision with a near life-like 200 degrees field of view. When you consider most headsets have a field of view of around 100 to 110 degrees, so 200 degrees is absolutely huge.

All this tech does make the HMD rather chunky though so comfort isn’t the best, but hey, at least the headache will look extra sharp. The headset uses the HTC Lighthouse for tracking and HTC Vive or Volve Index controls for hand tracking.

Valve Index VR Full Kit

Price: $1,860.00

Excellent image quality

Realistic presence

Incredibly comfortable headset

Finger-tracking controllers add a new level of immersion

The Valve Index features a 1440 x 1600 pixel display and can display up to 144 Hz, far better than anything else out there right now. This will, however, require a very powerful PC. This is not for a first time VR buyer.

The Index also comes with the amazing Valve knuckle controls, which allow for individual finger tracking for a next-level amount of control. The tracking of the headset is near perfect as it still uses the classic sensors for tracking.

If you’re buying this as your first VR you would also need to purchase the sensors. If you already own the LightHouse’s and the controllers from your previous headset, you could purchase the HMD separately.

This headset is currently one of the best headsets you can buy in terms of controllers and visual quality but a little bit on the pricey side.

Conclusion

A quick recap for the budget buyer I recommend the Samsung Odyssey+ as the Best VR Headsets of 2020. This is because of its great price and nice feature set.

For mid-range headsets, I recommend the Oculus Rift s or the Oculus Quest depending on your needs. If you just want the comfortable PC VR headset just take the Rift S and if you want to be able to play PC games as well as standalone VR games and comfort is less of an issue. take the Oculus Quest with a link cable.

If you really want to dive deep into VR and demand the absolute best headset you can get the Climax 5k with the amazing controllers and if you really want to splash out, you can go for the Valve Index.
