The Best Gaming Smartphone 2020

Not only is the Asus ROG Phone 2 the best gaming smartphone you can buy, but it is also one of the best all-round phones on the market. and while it may look like any other flagship smartphone, that is where the comparisons end.

Let’s have a closer look at this absolute gaming monster.

Asus Rog 2

Design: The phone itself feels like a beast and comes in taller, thicker and heavier than last year’s model. It has a massive 600mAh battery and if that’s not enough you also have the option of a larger screen. Another change is the cooling system which has been redesigned so it doesn’t stick out anymore.

Screen: The screen is an impressive 6.59-inch AMOLED display with a 1080p resolution and a tall aspect ratio. The screen has a refresh rate of an impressive 120 hertz, which is twice that of a typical smartphone panel. When you’re scrolling or playing high frame rate content, moving images look crisper and without any blurring or smearing at the edges.

Overall the display looks great and the high refresh rate doesn’t compromise the black levels and you also get vibrant colors. There’s HDR support too if you want to watch HDR content on your phone.

Maximum brightness is very impressive for a high refresh rate panel. The Rog Phone 2 comes with 480 Nits maximum with the manual slider and a boost up to 620 Nits on auto mode in bright conditions

The panel is also quite responsive and a low touch latency gives you that extra edge and in your games.

Audio: Any gamer will tell you that with good visuals, you need good audio, and you’ll be glad to hear the ROG Phone 2 has one of the best smartphone speakers we’ve ever tested. It’s a stereo speaker setup with a five magnet design and each speaker has his own amplifier. Loudness is really impressive and you get great depth and clarity.

Memory: There is no expandable storage through Micro SD storage, but you do get a tonne of storage onboard, with the larger option reaching one terabyte.

Camera: You get a 48-megapixel main camera with a Quad Bare filter and a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera. In good light, the 48-megapixel photos from the main camera look very nice.

Video quality is excellent and there’s a lot of detail and the laid back processing means the colors look natural and you don’t have aggressive sharpening. The ultrawide camera can shoot in up to 4K at 30 FPS.

Security: Under the display is an optical fingerprint reader for you to wake up and unlock the phone. Face unlock is an option too, but a less secure one. USB-C Ports: One unique aspect of the ROG Phone 2 is that it has two

USB-C ports: one at the bottom and one on the side. The side port offers a more advanced 3.1 connection and you can use it to charge or to connect to other accessories.

Fan: The Aero Active Cooling fan comes in the retail box and it even works with the included Arrow case. The fan is a great feature and keeps the phone in your hands nice and cool.

epic performance

The ROG Phone 2 has the top chipset currently available, the Snapdragon 855 Plus which is basically an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 855 with a boosted 640 GPU and along with that you also get 12 GB of RAM.

To be an effective mobile console you need to have good battery life and Asus has you covered here with a hefty 6000mAh battery. Unlike most flagships these days, the ROG 2 doesn’t have superfast charging but you’ll be glad to hear its 30-watt charger with hyper-charged technology can get you from 0 up to 66 percent in just under an hour.

In CPU benchmark’s the ROG Phone 2 has scores similar to other top flagships but it scores much better with on-screen rendering tests. Thanks to the high refresh rate, the screen frame rate isn’t limited to 60 FBS.

In GPU tests the ROG 2 scores significantly better than phones with regular Adreno 640 GPUs.

Overall, the Asus ROG 2 offers an excellent gaming experience and with the controllers, it feels like a proper console-setup.
